M—MA
BIBLIOTHÈQUE

DAKAR—SN

Invited by Ghost Creative Productions, Colectivo Warehouse integrated a team of artists for the realization of an Arts and Ecology festival at Licée Galandou Diouf, a public school in the center of Dakar.
The project’s main objective was to awaken the young students and the entire school community to environmental awareness through Art.
During two weeks in residence, Colectivo Warehouse developed a project in the Library and its surrounding area. Starting by redesigning the interior layout of the existing library, the primary objective was to introduce students to architectural tools. From that point on, the conditions were created for us to start working with a group of kids and codesigning a "new" library, a new space for reading and studying made with, and for, the students.
Through the a collection of local wood waste/scraps, the school students were able to create and build a whole new structure based on circular economy. This structure is built from a small auditorium, nestled by the adjacent tree, where children can have their own "private" space in the school playground.

P—PORTAL DE PALMA

LISBON—PT

Portal de Palma was a participative portal-shaped installation focused on the collective memory of Palma’s neighbourhood, made of 144 stools. Each stool holds a fragment of memory shared by the inhabitants through a woodprint system on top of each seat.

Over the course of three weeks, the 144 memory-stoolswere built through a participatory in-situ workshop that involved residents, local shopkeepers and occasional passers-by. One of the main goals of this artistic installation was the inhabitants involvement and the activation / appropriation of the public space. A call for remembrance that fosters a tight relationship between the people and the installation achieved through emotional times.

N—NOMAD BASE CAMP

ODEMIRA—PT

Nomad Base Camp is a prefab temporary 100m2 building, created to support CLARA’s international workshops. It’s a modular system created to be fast, adaptable, and with no impact on the site. The architectural language of the Nomad base Camp introduces a contemporary image, based on a concise and clean design, where the volumetric shape interconnects harmoniously with the surroundings of the old brick factory, with a strong presence on the site.

The design of continuous one-pitch roofs is allusive to the shape of the roof of the brick factory and its slopes are determined to increase the energy efficiency of solar equipment, responsible for capturing and generating energy that leads to the self-sufficiency of this equipment.

C—COMMUNITY KITCHEN

ALMADA—PT
Precarious shacks without water and sanitation are the homes and lifestyle of nearly 500 people - about 30% children - who live in an informal settlement in Costa da Caparica. This neighbourhood, called Terras da Costa, has been inhabited for thirty years by these people.
Terras da Costa is an isolated territory, invisible to most people, where the locals feel forgotten except for frequent severe police interventions. Many of the families use campfires to cook inside or near their homes, which is a public safety hazard in neighbourhood without water.

This project was conceived and designed by means of an extensive and highly participatory process, in which the communities of Terras da Costa were always present and actively involved in the discussion. The construction process was accompanied by activities aimed at helping the community acquire tools to manage and develop the kitchen, its utility rules and regulations, users rights and duties.

A broad international team of architects, urbanists, carpenters, artists, social mediators, as well as a growing number of volunteers have joined the project, making it bigger and better. The simple wooden framing technique and the numerous activities around the building site allow everyone to become part of the project.
The construction becomes a moment for knowledge-sharing and hands-on learning.

P—POSTER
MOSTRA

LISBON—PT

“Participation is the new green?” was an answer to POSTER MOSTRA ‘17 invitation to Colectivo Warehouse.

This poster raise a public reflextion about the truth behind contemporaneous participation and collaboration. It is mostly meanfull in cities’ proccess or it’s just a urban trend ?

For this poster Colectivo Warehouse used post-its from an ongoing participative rehousing process, that by the time was already losing Almada’s Municipality support.
