P—PORTAL DE PALMA

LISBON—PT

Portal de Palma was a participative portal-shaped installation focused on the collective memory of Palma’s neighbourhood, made of 144 stools. Each stool holds a fragment of memory shared by the inhabitants through a woodprint system on top of each seat.

Over the course of three weeks, the 144 memory-stoolswere built through a participatory in-situ workshop that involved residents, local shopkeepers and occasional passers-by. One of the main goals of this artistic installation was the inhabitants involvement and the activation / appropriation of the public space. A call for remembrance that fosters a tight relationship between the people and the installation achieved through emotional times.

O—OBSERVATORIUM

LISBON—PT

“This is a breathtaking pace, and such a pace cannot help but create new ills as it dispels old, new ignorance, new problems, new dangers. Surely the opening vistas of space promise high costs and hardships, as well as high reward.”
John F. Kennedy, 12 Setember, 1962

Observatorium aims to be a meeting point for sharing and disseminating emerging methodologies rooted in the collective construction of architectural processes. The importance of the process from which the final object results outweighs any interest in the object itself and seeks to understand the impact on both the city and its inhabitants.

T—TRANSFORMAR

ALMADA—PT

TransforMar was a two week project aimed to create a intergenerational meeting point for Cova do Vapor: a playground for kids; a multipurpose hall to help the Biblioteca do Vapor develop its activity with the inhabitants; a comfortable bench to seat, talk and enjoy the stunning view and a path to improve the accessibility of the site.

A process of experimentation involving a carpentry and building workshop, environmental sensibilization, games, festive lunches, poetry, yoga, surf, and so on!

Colectivo Warehouse took part in the construction of the equipment and, in collaboration with Samuel Boche, supported all the volunteers and participants by tutoring them in this phase of the project.

A—CABANA

LISBON—PT

The shelter is a tribute to the sacred feminine, by the beauty of the forms, by being a protective space and by using friendly materials. Design inspiration was based on the use of natural textures and ancestral and holistic techniques, surprising the visitors by it’s extra large scale and authenticity.
The team went on a journey to collect the abundant and biodegradable materials from natural Portuguese landscapes, resulting in a richness of textures and layers of materials, all in their pure state. Eucalyptus poles for the light structure were cut from a crowded forest that needed clearing and a range of colors of earth were harvested from different clay-soils.

A Cabana was designed and built by Terrapalha and collaborators, lead by architect Catarina Pinto. The practice engage in projects dedicated to the utilization of appropriate and local natural materials

ZEN

AZORES—PT

As part of the second edition of Pico Zen Festival, Colectivo Warehouse, in collaboration with Terrapalha studio, were invited to design and build a temporary structure that would accommodate the main activities of the festival.

The project’s premises were clear from the start, in resume the main goal was to create a structure that had the least possible environmental and local impact, minimizing the use of external resources. In this way the design response was to use local labor, materials and techniques.
Bamboo tree, as an invasive species on the island, was an obvious choice for the structure, aligning with the use of local fishing ropes and mooring techniques for tensioning and structural bonding.
