T—THE ARCH

GENK—BE

“The Arch” was a cultural project developed in a research and technological park in the Waterschei mine, located in Genk, Belgium.
Constructlab coordinated this project, a European network that Warehouse is part of. The project took place between May and September and as a Colectivo Warehouse's member I participated in the construction phase.

In the activation phase the space worked as a temporary research laboratory focused on the infinite possibilities of creation with recycled plastic.
With several participants, guests and a festival program, the second phase of the building’s life was marked by its daily use as a place for socializing, meeting and appropriation by the local community.

M—MON[S]
INVISIBLE

MONS—BE

Mon (s) invisible, is a word play from the name of the city of Mons (Belgium) and the pronoun ‘mon’, mine. In the heart of a small and unfortunately closed public park on the roof of a former army bakery, a circular wooden platform is being built. This “Agora” is the stage for the Youth Program of the Capital of Culture Mons 2015. Under the title “Mon(s) idéal”, the curators invite to think utopically and appeal to the inhabitants (and not just the young ones) for their city and its inhabitants Future.

The municipality of Mons has declared itself ready to open the park for a summer. In collaboration with “les commissaires anonymes”, a group of young curators working in Brussels, a program has been developed that addresses the residents as well as the culture interested visitors and offers opportunities for their own initiatives. The aim of this commitment is to bring together a group of local actors who would participate in a permanent opening of the park.

C—CASA DO
VAPOR

ALMADA—PT

Inspired from the creativity of the locals, the genuine DIY ethic and to have discovered a community that still lives up to its name, EDA and Constructlab (ex-EXYZT) decided to self-initiate Casa do Vapor, a support structure to the local association, that can absorb various possibilities to serve local initiatives.

Its various structures have accommodated an open air classroom, a public library, a kitchen, a bike-workshop, a skate-ramp, a playground and a pizza-oven. The collective became part of the local community for four months and an exchange of ideas and exercises in collectivity took place.  Casa do Vapor was built out of reused wood from the construir juntos project in Guimarães ECC 2012.

The construction was simple and welcomed participation from both kids and grown-ups. Feeling sympathy with the lack of external support, which is everyday reality in the village, the locals became even more invested in this project. Due to building restrictions, the installations could only be temporary. However, Casa do Vapor became a ‘common’ in its own right that survives.
